What is MTL?
MTL is an abbreviation for "mouth-to-lung" which is a style of inhalation. Most people draw from a cigarette this way which is why mouth-to-lung vape tanks are great to get started with when making the switch from smoking to vaping.
Are MTL Tanks Only for Beginners?
MTL tanks are for anyone who prefer this style of vaping. You could be drawn to mouth-to-lung vape tanks if you prefer your vape to emulate the feel of a cigarette.
As we talked about in our last blog, technology has come a long way and you can now make almost any tank a MTL tank with the proper coil and airflow setting. For now, we’ll go over tanks that are designed with MTL in mind.
Why We Chose These Tanks
We looked at a few different features when choosing our favorite 3 MTL tanks:
- Ease of use
- Versatility
- Performance
Before we bring a new product to our shelves, we like to do some research. We look at the product specifications, online reviews, and try it out for ourselves. Sometimes the specifications sound great in writing, but the performance falls flat. Sometimes it works great but is difficult to set up. These are all things we take into consideration before bringing any new product in to our stores.
Our 3 Favorite MTL Tanks
Aspire is one of the oldest, most trusted Vapor companies in the industry. They have always geared their products to cater to the smoker making them a go-to company for starter kits and devices. Again, you don’t have to be a beginner to enjoy these kinds of devices; it’s all based on preference.
The Nautilus XS is a low powered tank that can run up to 22W. For MTL vaping, we recommend the 1.8 ohm coils that are rated for 12-16W for the perfect puff.
This tank can be paired with any device that has a 510 adapter, but we found that the Nautilus XS and Deco Mod make the perfect pair as pictured above. (Click here to see how this pairing could earn you longer battery life)
The dual slotted top airflow control not only allows you to tailor your vaping experience, but it also helps eliminate any leaking problems that sometimes happen with bottom airflow tanks.
This tank is very easy to fill as the entire top cap unscrews revealing the full tank reservoir. This is especially handy if your favorite flavor is packaged in a glass dropper bottle. Most E-Liquid companies have transitioned to the plastic squeeze bottles, but some CBD liquid and other E-Liquid companies are sticking with the glass bottles.

Dislikes:
- 2mL capacity. It would be great to have a larger E-Liquid capacity, but if you're vaping as often as you're craving a cigarette, the full 2mL tank should last you nearly all day, especially since you'll be vaping at a lower wattage.
The Zlide tank is perfect for those who work outdoors or for those who are a little *ahem* clumsy. This tank is enclosed in a stainless-steel cage which helps protect the glass from minor drops. The exposed glass allows viewing of liquid levels, so you’ll never worry about a dry coil.
One of our favorite features of the Zlide is the sliding top cap. Filling the Zlide is easy and hassle free with just a push of the marked arrows. Additionally, this tank comes with two drip tips which is really neat because one locks the sliding top cap, preventing it from opening unless you remove it. This is especially handy for those who keep their vape in their pocket. The second drip tip allows the top cap to slide freely without having to remove the drip tip first.
The Zlide is a low powered tank that can run up to 16W with the 0.48 ohm coils. If you prefer a more restricted, low powered puff, we suggest opting for the 1.6 ohm coil and adjusting the bottom airflow control.

Is it a pod or is it a tank? The awesome thing about this mouth-to-lung vape tank is that it’s the best of both pod and tank. Constructed from durable plastic, the PnP is stronger than most glass tanks. Plus, it’s an inexpensive fix if you do manage to chip or crack the pod.
The pod itself has a magnetic connection on the bottom that attaches it to a 510 base. This feature allows you to swap your PnP from your VooPoo Argus device to your Vaporesso Gen S Mod with a simple click.
With the PnP, you can go from MTL to DTL with the switch of a coil. Installing the coil is easy and is the reason this pod tank is called the 'PnP'. Press ‘n’ Play coil installation means you don’t have to screw your coils in. All you need to do is prime your coil and plug it into the base! With the huge range of coils available for the PnP, you can vape as low as 10W or as high as 80W. However, we suggest the tear drop PnP (as pictured above) for mouth-to-lung vaping and the regular PnP Pod Tank for sub-ohm vaping at higher wattages.
Our favorite thing about this tank is the versatility. You can have multiple tanks in one with the PnP. If you get a spare pod (like the PnP Pod), you can have one flavor in a high strength to get you through the workday, and swap it to a lower strength for DTL vaping at home!

Given these points, these are just 3 of our favorite MTL tanks and we’re sure there will be more to come. The Vapor Industry is ever growing and there are many MTL tanks out there that we haven’t even heard of yet. Keep in mind, if your tank isn’t listed here, it doesn’t mean it’s not a great tank. Whatever helps you stay cigarette-free is the best tank there is!
